Reasons why we love soup so much (2024)

Let's face facts here, any of us who love soup know that there is just something about the act of making soup that makes it all worthwhile. There are so many ways to create something out of nothing using a great variety of ingredients, and it’s also an excellent way of trying out something new! However, reasons go beyond that little bubble though.

Soup usually has many benefits apart from being tasty. Whether you have it for breakfast, lunch or dinner, it can actually make our body feel good in the best way possible, giving us the energy we need to function during the colder months, whilst satisfying our appetites with a warm delicious meal.

So, as Valentine’s Day approaches, let’s take a look at some of the reasons why we love soup so much:

1) They're easy to prepare

You can go on autopilot for this one. Chop, chop, chop the vegetables and throw them into a pot with some water or broth. Turn on the stove and within half an hour, you have yourself a nice, tasty bowl of soup that will warm your bones during winter time.

2) Gives a sense of comfort

It should be no surprise why soup makes us feel so good when we eat it. Not only does it make our taste buds sing, but also provides a nice warmth inside which helps calm us down, be more positive and fulfilled. The feeling of a warm bowl of soup in your stomach is one that cannot be matched since it is pleasant to the eyes and heart.

3) Support our bodies natural detoxification

Soups usually consist of plant-based ingredients such as vegetables, beans, legumes, potatoes etc. As per World's Healthiest Foods, these plant foods provide us with essential vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and fiber to support colon health and your immunity. The fiber works as a natural scrub brush in the intestine by sweeping away toxic substances that are believed to contribute to many diseases.

4) A great way to use leftovers

If you ever have garbanzo beans from making hummus or any leftover herbs, meat or vegetables from the last meal you ate - throw them in the soup! You'll be adding protein, fibre and other great plant nutrients into your diet and they’re pretty easy to freeze and reheat the next day!

5) A healthier alternative

Using a lot of raw, organic ingredients is another reason why we love soup so much! Whether you're trying to lose weight or even maintain your current figure, plant-based soups are often a popular alternative because they are low in calories and high in fibre; satisfying our hunger pangs, without leaving us feeling heavy in our stomach which would otherwise require us to eat less later on.

6) A great meal for company

If you've got friends or family coming over at your place for a get-together or party, why not cook your soup in advance and let it simmer so you can serve them the next day with some delicious crusty bread? This will leave them impressed by your cooking skills, while also providing yourself with more reasons to love making soup.

If soup isn't your thing, at least make sure you're including fruits and veggies into your diet on a daily basis. Your body will thank you for it!
