Before decimalisation brought about a new currency with new coinage, the sum of three pence was pronounced variously /ˈθrʊpəns/throop-ence, /ˈθrɛpəns/threpp-ence or /ˈθrʌpəns/thrupp-ence, reflecting different pronunciations in the various regions and nations of Great Britain.
