Crockpot Recipe: Pepper Steak | Living With Landyn (1)

Ask and you shall receive! Last week, my mom whipped up a few delicious crockpot recipes for the family and you guys have been flooding my DM’s for all the info. This Pepper Steak is a classic, my grandma even made it growing up. Let’s just say this recipe has been a staple for so long that Belinda had to make it again just so she knew the exact ingredient to write out – this is a recipe she knows by heart. ♥️ This is such great an easy weeknight meal for the family. Link in bio and IG stories for the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 - 2lbs. Top Round London Broil Steak
  • Cubed 1-inch pieces. Serves 4-6
  • 1 Cup low sodium Soy Sauce, plus 2 Cup of water.
  • 1/3 cup of cornstarch to 1 cup of water (The reason for cornstarch for thickening. A lot like flour can thicken- Cornstarch makes your gravy clear where flour will be milky.)
  • 4 Green Bell Peppers - cut julienne to 1-inch pieces. Store covered in refrigerator.

Instructions

  1. Place steak with soy sauce in crockpot on low setting for 4-6 hours.
  2. Add bell pepper an hour before serving.
  3. Add 1/3 of cornstarch to one cup of water to thicken the soy sauce before serving. Bring pepper steak to a boil and slowly add cornstarch until it thickens to a light gravy.
  4. If you desire more gravy add an additional 1/2 cup of soy sauce, plus 1 cup of water.

FAQs

How much liquid do you put in a slow cooker for steak? ›

Do you add water when cooking meat in a slow cooker? If your slow cooker is 3/4 full, no extra liquid is required. However, if you're cooking a smaller amount of food, add 1-2cm of liquid in the bottom of the slow cooker bowl to ensure there's enough liquid for cooking.

When should I add peppers to a slow cooker? ›

I add only part of the bell peppers in the beginning, which gives the tomato sauce and the chicken the flavor of peppers, but still keeps most of the bell peppers nice and crisp, since they are sort of steaming during the second part of the cooking process.

Can you cook steak in slow cooker without liquid? ›

Water or liquid is necessary to create steam. When cooking meat or poultry, the water or liquid level should cover the ingredients to ensure effective heat transfer throughout the crock. Some manufacturers of slow cookers recommend adding liquid to fill the stoneware 1/2 to 3/4 full.

Should meat be submerged in liquid in slow cooker? ›

To keep a pot roast from drying out, your slow cooker needs liquid to create a moist environment, and that can include meat or vegetable stock, wine or water. This doesn't mean the meat should be submerged; a cup or two of liquid will be enough, since the cooker is covered and liquids stay trapped inside.
