Styal is home to any number of thriving sports and social activities, for the more active we have Cricket and Football teams who are regularly taking advantage of the Sports and Social centre on Altrincham road whilst the Wilmslow Phoenix club has some very well equipped facilities on Styal Road itself. Styal Life (2)Of course other sports are not ignored; the Styal Tennis Club has some very committed and enthusiastic members and has their own courts, again on Altrincham road whilst any golfers are very well catered for with the Styal Golf club just along Station Road, a lush little course complete with driving range and eatery.

Styal Life (4)Styal Tennis Club is set in lovely surroundings and open countryside in the National Trust Estate and in close proximity to Quarry Bank Mill. The club has 3 recently refurbished tarmac courts and a clubhouse with a social area and changing facilities. New members are always welcome.

Styal Life (5)The Phoenix Sports Club on Styal Road offers cricket, football, hockey and lacrosse sports and has a full size floodlit sand based astroturf for hire. The social facilities are excellent and available to local residents to hire for parties and celebrations. There is parking on site for 110 cars

Styal Life (15) Norcliffe Chapel
Norcliffe Chapel is a Unitarian and Free Christian Chapel and has been in existance since 1823. It is located in the heart of Styal village. Rev Alex Bradley is the minister for the Chapel.

Styal Life (16)The Methodist Church
Styal Methodist Church is situated on Farm Fold in the village of Styal. The property itself is owned by the National Trust and is situated near Styal Mill. There have been Methodists meeting in Styal since 1790. As the society grew, Robert Hyde Greg converted our present day building, from a Corn Store into a Chapel in the 1830’s. The congregations in those days were mainly mill workers.

The church community today is drawn from Styal village and the surrounding area. Styal Methodist Church offers you a warm welcome. We are committed to serve the people of Styal sharing God’s love with them. We seek to strengthen our links with the village. The church welcomes visitors from the National Trust. The minister is Rev Katy Thomas.

Styal Life (17)Styal Primary School is unique and special in many ways. Staff, governors, parents and children work together to make a welcoming and friendly community. The school is has about a hundred pupils on roll and the strong family like atmosphere is evident as soon as you walk through the door.

Quarry Bank Mill

Styal Life (18)One of Britain’s greatest industrial heritage sites, showing how a complete industrial community lived.

Quarry Bank overflows with the atmosphere of the Industrial Revolution. A visit to the cotton mill, powered by Europe’s most powerful working waterwheel will certainly stimulate your senses. The clatter of machinery and hiss of steam engines make an astonishing noise. Take a guided tour of the Apprentice House, which housed the pauper children who worked in the mill.

Visit the stunning garden, the Greg family’s picturesque valley retreat adjoining the mill. Stroll to Styal village, built by the family to house the mill workers and still a thriving community, or walk through woods along the River Bollin.
