The Regard Family (of New Iberia, Louisiana) began farming pecans along the scenic Cane River (located in Natchitoches Parish) in 1969 after brothers Dan and Joe Regard bought 2,000 acres of farm land that included pecan orchards. In 1982, Dan opened a small seasonal retail store in the city of Natchitoches on historic Front Street to sell their pecans direct from the orchard. During the late 1980's, Dan's wife, Margie Regard, started a corporate mail-order division of the company by the same name (Cane River Pecan Company) and began offering gourmet pecans to companies for use as distinctive corporate and executive business gifts.
