I’ve noticed lots of news stories about celebrating our zest for life regardless of age Jennifer Lopez is pictured gyrating on a table for her 54th birthday. Kate Beckinsale writes: 'I tell you what. Getting old is f***ing great'And one of the most iconic of toys, Barbie, sees her movie take a box office record of a billion dollars in 3 weeks. Barbie is 64 yrs old. I celebrated my 50 something birthday this summer (and no I didn’t gyrate wildly!)But I enjoyed learning so much from a number of gatherings with multi generations. Here’s my look back and what I am focusing on going forwards:👉🏾 In terms of #work: when I was starting out I embraced every job opportunity to build my experience and to chase success. Now I see work more as mentoring, supporting and building relationships. It is a relief not to be vying with colleagues for the next rung of the professional ladder.👉🏾 In terms of #life: It is being able to allow others to not like you and to be chilled about it. Emma Moore left her talent role at Telstra just over 2 years ago and launched her own business, Workspeak Consulting. Give them a follow as you might need a bit of career support at some point. When you’re starting your own business without a bucket full of cash to splash, your expertise in what you do is necessary- but not sufficient. You also have to become adept at marketing and sales, product and service design and marry customer insights with commercial nous. You have to learn to separate your personal identity from your brand and do more than just ride the wave of uncertainty- you have to become masterful at balancing your individual performance and energy which is often the same as your business performance, with its growth while being at the top of your wellbeing game - daily. Uncertainty, challenge, crises of confidence becomes the new normal. After all, if there’s no you, there’s no business. If there’s no business, there’s no impact. I think about the words of Carol Dweck: “becoming is better than being.”And it’s the same for leaders, right? You need to invest in your own growth and that of your team that’s fit for purpose. It’s ongoing. And while you’re becoming, you have to hold that delicate dance of performance and wellbeing. I’m so thrilled for this 2nd birthday celebration, Emma Moore. 💕Good Morning Lovers! 💕Valentines Day is my FAVORITE holiday (next to Easter)…here’s some tips on surviving it in the workplace:❤️ Enjoy the work you do and understand, though it be rewarding, it can never fully love you back ❤️ Be kind to your team. Not everyone has great examples of love or receive it daily, a shout out and recognizing some efforts can go a long way to make someone’s day! ❤️ If you and your partner work together in any capacity SET BOUNDARIES. Understand there may be some tough moments, create a safe space that isn’t your personal space, and don’t let anything external get in the way of what matters most!
