Is extra wide the same as 4E? ›

2E and 4E are two of the most common 'E' letter sizes, and similar to 'A' letter widths, adding more Es will increase the overall width. For men, a 2E is considered a Wide shoe, while a 4E or larger will be considered Extra Wide. For women, a 2E or larger is considered an Extra Wide shoe.

While there is no Shoe Manufacturer standard on shoe widths this is the most widely used Shoe Widths. Men's shoes Widths: Narrow (B), Medium (D), Wide (EE, 2E), X-Wide (4E), (6E), and some styles (9E): Dr.

About Shoe Widths

4A being the most narrow width and 14E being the widest width. Also, men's and women's shoe widths use the same letter system to indicate the width size, but the letters used to indicate the width differ. For example, a women's narrow width is "AA" or "2A" and a men's narrow width is a "B".

The next width fitting up from a D, is an E, then an EE and then EEE (3E). The widest fitting you will find on the high street is only an E fitting.

Half sizes differ by about 1/6 of an inch, which is about the width of a penny. This may not seem like a big deal, but for people with wide or narrow feet or who are in between sizes, this small difference can make a big difference in how well a shoe fits and feels.

There is a 1/2" difference between widths B and D and 3/8" difference between widths 4E and 6E. It is important to note that this is the maximum difference in width and occurs around the ball of the foot. As such, there is less of a difference towards the tip of the shoe and towards the heel.

People with standard feet sometimes find wide-fit shoes more comfortable, especially if they have wider-than-average feet, wear custom orthotics, or spend a lot of time standing.

A wide width is 1/4” wider than a medium width and an extra wide width is 1/2” wider than a medium width. People with foot swelling or edema may benefit from additionally measuring their instep girth, which will help them choose the appropriate shoe width.

How to tell if feet are wide? ›

Common signs of wide feet include discomfort in standard-width shoes, especially after long periods of wearing them. If the front of your shoes often wears out or stretches, you may have wide feet. What do wide feet look like? Wide feet have a broader forefoot and there may be a noticeable spreading of the toes.

6E (Super Wide): Measurement: Approximately 4.5 inches (11.4 centimeters) across the widest part of the foot. Description: 6E represents a super wide shoe width.

If you have wide feet, it's generally better to buy shoes a half size larger rather than smaller. This will create more comfort and your feet will feel better. Shoes that are too tight can cause discomfort, blisters, and other foot problems. A slightly larger size helps avoid these issues.

Wide fit shoes, on the other hand, will usually measure in the region of 10cm in width, while extra-wide fit shoes will measure around 11cm across or more. If you are unsure of what your size might be, you can easily measure the width of your feet with a tape measure or ruler.

AAA, AA, A, B, C, D, E, EE, EEE is the typical North American system and follows the brannock device standards, per the system B is narrow, C is regular, D is medium, E is wide, EE is extra wide and so on.

Up until now, we offered D (Normal Width) and EE (Extra Wide). With the addition of EEE (Triple Wide) we allow those with wider feet to find their perfect size. With each width increment D > E > EE > EEE the shoe last grows in volume, allowing the fitting of wider bridge / instep.
