When you describe food as being rich...When you describe food as being rich, what does that mean? Can I use the word "rich" to mean "nutritious" and/or "abundant"?If I want to describe a meal which is both nutritious and abundant, what kind of wording can I use? Can I just say "have a rich breakfast" or I can only go for something longer like "have an abundance of nutritious breakfast"?

We can say 'good' (=high quality), 'healthy' or 'nutritious' food, 'food with high nutritional value', 'wholesome' food (= good for your health). Rich' food means 'containing a lot of fat, butter, eggs, oil etc. and making you feel full quickly', so you should not use it here if you want to talk about food that is good for health. However, you can say 'I eat food rich in vitamins' to show that it is healthy and nutritious. You can also say 'balanced diet' (=one with the quantity and variety of food needed for good health). You can also say 'gourmet food'. (= of high quality and often expensive) Concerning the adjective 'abundant', we can use it here to mean that there is food more than enough or sufficient, but we can also use 'enough' or 'adequate' here. 'Adequate amount of nutritious or healthy or wholesome food' 'Enough nutritious food (breakfast) to go round. (= to be enough for everyone to have some) 'Enormous / vast / huge quantities of nutritious food.' 'Nutritious food enough for everyone.' 'A BIG nutritious breakfast.' 'A hearty (=large; making you feel full) breakfast.'

"Rich," in the above context, doesn't mean nutritious, really; nor abundant per se (in terms of volume). Rather it simply means "filling," as in that which fills the stomach quickly (again, not related to volume, really, but to not feeling hungry any more). For instance, a "rich" cake is one you can only have a few slices of before you start feeling full. P.S. If you mean large in quantity or number; abundant; plentiful, etc. the word you're looking for is probably "copious." As in "A copious meal."

Rich is usually used for food high in fat or sugar. Mainly for cream sauces and desserts. As for nutritious breakfast, I would say "I had a healthy breakfast this morning"
