How do I make a Starbucks mocha frappuccino?

To a blender jar, add the ice, milk, instant coffee, chocolate syrup (or cocoa powder) and sugar (or sweetener). Blend on medium-high speed for 30-45 seconds or until the ice is completely pureed and smooth.

Pour into your favorite glass and top with whipped cream and additional chocolate syrup or chocolate chips, if desired.

Ingredient Substitutions and Recommendations:

  • Milk: for the classic version, I list whole milk as the primary ingredient. You can substitute the milk of your choice, either dairy or plant-based milk instead of whole.
  • Sugar: for the classic version, I used regular granulated sugar. For the skinny version, I recommend a granular OR liquid sweetener. I use and enjoy Whole Earth granular monk fruit sweetener or Sweet Drops, Vanilla Cream liquid stevia drops. Both are great non-sugar options. Because personal preferences vary greatly, I recommend starting with a small amount of sweetener, and add more to reach your desired sweetness level.
  • Instant Coffee Granules: For both classic and skinny versions, using instant coffee provides a consistent coffee flavor that best matches Starbucks frappuccino recipes. This is because Starbucks uses instant coffee to make their Frappuccino recipes. Starbucks makes a Via Instant Coffee single serving packet that is great. Safeway stores also carry house blend instant coffee single-serving packet (pictured above) that has great flavor. NOTE: do not use coffee grounds, as this is NOT instant coffee. As a substitute to the instant coffee, you could also add a shot of freshly brewed espresso.

Nespresso Vertuo Coffee and Espresso Machine

Want to make both coffee AND espresso at home? This is the machine I use and LOVE. The fresh espresso is amazing and the brewed coffee tastes equally fantastic. I highly recommend!

I use this Nespresso machine to make freshly brewed espresso at home. It’s fantastic for a quick and simple Iced Vanilla Latte, Iced Caramel Latte, Mocha Smoothie or a Baileys Espresso Martini.

Topping your Mocha Frappe:

Whipped cream is the most common topping for a mocha frappucino recipe. However, chocolate chips are a great addition or a drizzle of additional chocolate syrup.

If you’re making the skinny option, go light on the whipped cream, as it will quickly add calories, sugar and fat to your drink.
