The More-Neutral Spirit
Vodka is typically distilled from neutral grains such as rye, corn, wheat, but sometimes also potato, beets, & grapes. Vodka can be the “catch-all” category for white spirits that don’t fit elsewhere. The flavor is neutral alcohol/ethanol, but can vary depending on additives or flavoring. It is typically unaged, and clear vodka is typically distinguished by its distilled base, as well as the region it was produced.
As Vodka is a versatile, more-neutral liquor, it is the most subjective spirit to pair with. Fruit-infused chocolate pairs well with Vodka, while sweeter milk chocolates will sweeter Vodka’s natural flavor profile, but it depends on the particular Vodka blend as well.
