John Dawson Myers, born April 29, 2008 to Barbara Ann Turbyfill Myers and John Corish Myers of the Fairview community, died at his home on March 12, 2023. He was a ninth-grader at A.C. Reynolds High. In addition to being an excellent student, he was a member of the JV and Varsity football teams and was beloved by all.

Dawson was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Frances Dawson Joiner Myers and Frederick Myers, Jr., and by his maternal grandfather, Ivan Turbyfill. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Ella Turbyfill Smith and step-grandfather Larry Smith, and by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Groce Funeral Home is handling arrangements. No public visitation is planned but there will be a graveside service on Sunday, March 19, at 4:00 p.m. at Mountain View Memorial Park, 392 Tabernacle Road, Black Mountain, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to A. C. Reynolds High School, earmarked for Athletics, One Rocket Drive, Asheville, NC 28803.

Words cannot express the deep sadness we are experiencing with the Myers family. It hits close to home for our family as we watched Dawson growing up into an amazing young man with our Brady and we feel like he was one of our own. We are deeply grateful for having Dawson be a part of our lives and will miss him dearly. Dawson’s sweetness, sense of humor, and kind chuckles will forever be engrained into our memories of him. To John and Bobbie please know we are with you in every thought and know you have lifelong backyard friends who will always be here for you both.

Such a wonderful young man! He will be remembered for his smile, laugh, friendship to others and being so polite. Prayers of comfort and peace that passes all understanding for his family. I always told him to call me Aunt Pam (Brady’s aunt).

Aiden and I are so heartbroken over the loss of such an amazing friend ❤️ we are forever grateful for so many memories.

We lose our 15-year-old son who passed in 2005 from an ATV accident off Cane Creek! My heart and prayers go out to you, the family and friends of your handsome son! Compassionate Friends is a great site to go to!

I remember Dawson from his years at Fairview and he rode my bus in his last several years there. He is absolutely one of the sweetest most kind and respectful kids I’ve known in all my years there. I pray fervently for Gods peace to envelope you both as you go forward. I hope you can rest in knowing that he’s in heaven and you will see him again.

The best thing about hay season and all the help you have given us through the years, has been watching Dawson grow up. His strength and work ethic has always fascinated me and he never once complained. When the rest of us were weary, he was the one that stayed strong. He had a great sense of humor, even when he wasn’t trying! You both are in my thoughts and prayers every day. All three of you are loved by so many. Praying for peace.

Larry and I are so sorry to hear about the passing of Dawson. Our hearts are broken for your family. Coach Brow has told me about what a great young man Dawson was on and off the field – always smiling and polite, but also tough when he needed to be during football.
