Most of Guerrero’s income comes from services. These are areas such as banking, trade, education, and tourism. Several resort areas along the coast draw many visitors to the state. Acapulco is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Mexico. Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa are also popular. The city of Taxco (Taxco de Alarcón), in the mountains, has many beautifully preserved buildings from the period when Mexico was ruled by Spain.
Farmers in Guerrero grow coffee, tobacco, bananas, rice, sugarcane, corn (maize), and cacao. The mountains hold many valuable minerals. Silver, gold, copper, lead, and iron have been mined there for years.
