FAQs - Simply Savory Gourmet Dip Mixes (2024)

Frequently Asked Questions
Do You Sell Wicker Dip Chillers?

We do sell wicker dip chillers, but because of the handmade nature and the different variations of our dip chillers, we only sell them in person at our store Coming Home in Sanford, FL.

What is the shelf life of your mixes?

If kept in a cool, dark locatioin, our dip mixes have a shelf life of approximately two years from the date of purchase. Since our dip mixes are made of dried spices, they do not spoil, they start to lose their strength.

What is the refrigerated shelf life of your mixes?

Once our dip mixes are made, you can keep them in the refrigerator for two weeks. Of course, if your sour cream, mayonnaise, cream cheese, or Cool Whip is expiring before that, your dip will expire sooner as well.

What brand of ingredients do you recommend?

Sour Cream – We haven’t noticed much difference with how sour cream changes the flavor of our dips, so any brand of sour cream will do.

Mayonnaise – We recommend using a mayonnaise that has vinegar as a lesser ingredient. When you look at the ingredient list, you want to choose one that has vinegar down lower on the list. Usually the store brand will be the right choice.

Cream Cheese – Any brand pf cream cheese is fine, but we prefer Philadelphia.

Whipped Topping – We have found that Cool Whip will give you the most volume.

What tips do you have to make my dip taste like what I sampled?

We’re glad you asked!

  • Follow the directions on the label. The exact directions for how we made our sample are on the back of the label in the upper left hand corner.
  • Use the ingredients we suggest under the question, “What brand of ingredients do you recommend?”
  • Refrigerate your dip for at least two hours, and overnight would even be better. We make our samples every Tuesday, so when you tasted our sample, it had been refrigerated for around four days!
  • Use mayonnaise. If the directions call for mayonnaise,do notuse Miracle Whip.
  • Use softened cream cheese. If the directions call for cream cheese, make sure that you soften it before using it. For an 8-ounce block of cream cheese, place the completely unwrapped cheese on a microwave-safe plate and microwave it on high for 15 seconds.
  • Blend dip + cream cheese first. If the directions call for cream cheese, blend the dip mix with the cream cheese, before you add any other ingredients.
  • Thaw Cool Whip. If the directions call for Cool Whip, make sure to thaw the Cool Whip in the refrigerator before using. Place unopened tub in refrigerator for 4 hours. Do not stir. For best results, do not thaw Cool Whip on countertop or in microwave. Excessive stirring or heat will cause product to soften and become watery.

FAQs - Simply Savory Gourmet Dip Mixes (2024)

FAQs

What is the shelf life of dry dip mixes? ›

How long will my dip mixes last? Our dry dip mixes will keep just as well as the spices in your cupboard. Over time, they may lose a little of their color or potency. We recommend you consume your dip mixes within 1 year for best results.

How to sell dip mixes? ›

Sell your dip mixes at farmer's markets, craft shows, festivals, antique shows, flea markets and any other special events. One taste and they sell themselves.

Can you eat dip after expiration date? ›

The date printed on the container is an “unopened” date - meaning the dip will stay fresh if unopened until that date. Once the dip container has been opened, we recommend consuming the dip within about 10-14 days for optimum flavor and freshness and follow the “refrigerate after opening” instructions on the label.

Does dry mix go bad? ›

Typically, a package of dried soup mix will maintain its best quality for about 18 to 24 months if stored properly. The "expiration" or "best by" dates on the packaging are indicators of peak quality rather than safety, indicating that the product may still be safe to consume beyond these dates.

Does dry ranch dip mix go bad? ›

Ranch dressing mix, when unopened, can typically remain fresh and tasty up to 2 years past the printed date on the package - this is a best-by date, not an expiration date. Once the package has been opened, the mix should be used within 3 months for optimal flavor and quality.

Do dip powders expire? ›

Dipping powders may also contain Benzoyl Peroxide, polyester glitters, foils and pigments. Cosmetic products are formulated and tested for a shelf life of 1 - 3 years under normal storage conditions, depending on the product's composition, preservation, and other factors.

Do dry seasoning packets go bad? ›

Dried herbs and spices don't truly expire or “go bad” in the traditional sense. When a spice is said to have gone bad, it simply means that it has lost most of its flavor, potency, and color.

How long are dry mixes good for? ›

Dry cake mix can hang around for 12-18 months if you store it right.
