Bounties (2024)

Bounties (1)

Bounties are a type of challenge quest in Fortnite: Battle Royale, added in Chapter 2: Season 5. They are quests which must be completed in a single game, and task the player with eliminating an identified enemy player within a 6 minute time frame.

Bounty quests are obtained by either talking to a character, or by accessing a board outside of various locations. Accepting the Bounty from one of these characters will start the quest.

Functionality[]

For the Hunter:[]

A Bounty quest initiates by showing the player the outfit that the enemy they are tasked to eliminate is using. It will then shortly show the name of said player, and start the 6 minute countdown to eliminate them. On the players map will be a small yellow circle, with the appearance of a radar scanner. In this circle is the location of the player who must be eliminated. As the player approaches the circle, it will begin to shrink, changing forms from its largest, to medium, to small. When the player locates the enemy, once they are eliminated (not just knocked, they must be eliminated), the Quest is complete, and the player receives their reward of bars.

Bear in mind, these notifications show for all members of the player's squad, and when a target is eliminated, all squad members will receive the reward. On top of this, any squad member can eliminate the target, regardless of who initiated the Bounty. As such, only one Bounty at a time can be initiated, but once complete there is no cool-down on starting another.

For the Hunted:[]

When a player becomes the target of a Bounty Quest, the same 6 minute timer will display. The hunted player will get a threat indicator, highlighting how close the hunter is to their location. The threat indicator goes in three bars, and gets darker and fills to full when the hunter is close. The bars coincide with the size of the Hunter's circle. If the hunter is close, the bar will be full and red, if the hunter is far, the bar will be 1/3 and yellow. The hunted can survive the quest for 6 minutes and be given the reward attributed to the Hunter, if they were successful.

Like the quest for the hunter, all members of the player's squad can see the threat level, but it will only be targeting a single player in the squad. If that player is eliminated the Bounty ends, even if other squad members remain. As such, the squad can only have one member at a time being hunted.

Poaching:[]

If you have initiated a Bounty Quest, there is a chance your Quest can be poached. This means another player has eliminated your target by chance. This counts as a completion for the challenge, but you get less bars as a result of it.

The same way your target can be poached, the hunter can prematurely die before the Quest is up, and as such you receive a reward less than surviving the full time.

Versus[]

Versus is a special type of bounty added in Chapter 3: Season 3 for the Dragonball Z Super Collaboration in Update v21.40. A versus worked like a normal bounty, but instead of showing a rough area, showed an exact location of the enemy. To compensate for this, the player who initiated the versus also had their exact location shown to the opponent. The Versus was unique in that it did not randomly target a player when initiated, rather both players had to queue for a Versus, and they would be matched together. If one player starts a versus and nobody else does, the versus would not start. All other bounty rules applied, including poaching. The Versus was removed in Update v21.50.

Strategy Guide[]

Bounties (2)

This section outlines a strategy.

Feel free to add tips, tricks and general advice about the topic.

  • In the final circles, a Bounty Quest can be useful to identify the final enemies, as it will give a vague area of where the last player(s) may be.
  • Bounty Quests are often tied to the players closest to you, as such you will not receive a Quest on a player who is a long distance away. This can be used to farm the Quests, as if you are in a remote location and you know another squad is nearby, you can easily activate the Quest and eliminate them as you would, with a Bars reward too.
  • If you are playing Duos, Trios or Squads, you can eliminate only the player needed for the bounty, initiate another one, and then kill another member of the squad. If you are confident enough at your skills, you can get up to four times the rewards for eliminating a squad as you would for killing all the members of a hunted player's squad.
  • Hiding in secret underground areas of buildings can provide beneficial to surviving a Bounty. Other items such as Rift Fish or Rift-to-Go can also be very useful.

Trivia[]

  • You can have a Bounty Quest initiated and also be hunted at the same time. As such, two squads can end up with Bounty Quests on each other's members.
