If you have celiac disease or a gluten intolerance, finding gluten-free alternatives to some of your favorite snacks can be a challenge. But the good news is that the options are growing, and gluten-free choices are available for bars, granola, cookies, crackers and more. That's why our food and nutrition experts in the Good Housekeeping Institute test hundreds of gluten-free products year-round to help you find the best options on the market. Here are our top gluten-free choices for any snacking occasion.

One way to identify gluten-free packaged foods is to look at the label. But you may notice that some snacks are labeled as gluten-free, while others have a Certified Gluten-Free stamp. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) only allows packaged foods with less than 20 parts per million of gluten to be labeled gluten-free, but manufacturers are not required to test for the presence of gluten. That's why it's still important to look at the product ingredient list and when possible choose foods that are certified gluten-free by a credible third-party organization (all of the snacks on this list are) to confirm that the manufacturer's gluten-free processes and claims are legitimate.

Keep in mind that gluten-free isn't necessarily synonymous with healthy. In fact, certain gluten-free packaged foods may have more sodium, added sugar or fat than foods that do contain gluten. We included a mix of gluten-free items on this list and feature many options on the more health-conscious side, but always take a look at the nutrition label and ingredient list to make an informed choice when grocery shopping. Don't forget that some naturally nutritious gluten-free snacks include fruits, vegetables, nuts and nut butters, yogurt, cottage cheese, popcorn, hardboiled eggs, hummus and guacamole.
