21 campfire cooking recipes - Baby Dickey (2024)

Emily Dickey posted this in Recipes

Welcome to camping season! I’m an outdoorsy girl and love to camp. Back in those pre-kid days, we used to go every summer! And I meancamping—in a tent, in the woods, with a fire pit. One of my favorite memories is camping in the mountains of Colorado while visiting my brother and waking up to a light snowfall! We survived that trip on a giant can of beans, haha. Campfire cooking is the best. Plan your meals, fill your cooler, and start the fire! Here are some great campfire cooking recipes to get you started:

In my Campfire Cooking collection over at foodie.com, there’s everything from snacks and dips to breakfasts and dinners. Full and fancy meals or campfire cooking basics (you can’t go wrong with a hot dog and beans)! Make it easy with tinfoil boats or bring your own pans. Cook over a fire or use a grill. Check your campsite before you go to see what’s available! We have our own mini camping grill we can bring with us when the campsite is remote enough to not offer any.

We don’t camp, but occasionally we have small fires in the backyard and s’mores are a staple for us.

This is such a great round up. I shared with a few girl scout leaders and friends who camp. Thank you so much for sharing. Round ups make it so easy to have great information in one spot!

I like to cook but I have to admit I am not super imaginative in the kitchen or around the campfire so this post inspired me to no end!!! I love that a lot of the dishes were made using cast iron as well. I always take that when I go camping. I love the breakfast foods….I am not sure why but breakfast cooked over a campfire (and in cast iron) is just THE BEST! Thank you for the inspiration 🙂

I agree, breakfast over the fire is the best – and it works for any time of day!

The potato boat and the grilled sweet corn look really good! I had never thought of making potatoes on the grill.

We don’t really have campfires, but we have family bonfires every so often and some of these would be perfect for then!

I enjoy attending bonfires but can’t say I’ve done much cooking on one. Does smores count? 😉

We love fajitas in the Disco that my husband made. Perks of living on the farm we have plenty of discs around and it makes it easy to have fajitas and stir fry while camping.

The Red Potato hash looks amazing! I would try making something like that indoors. I’m embarassed to say that I’ve never been camping (unless you count Girl Scouts and 6th grade camp). Both camps had cabins too!

When I think of campfires smores is the only thing that comes to mind, but I guess if you are really camping you need real food too, HA! Great list.
